Horticulture & Landscaping Enter a Growing Industry
The ACJVS Horticulture/Landscaping program prepares students to enter into the growing industries of greenhouse/nursery production, garden center management, landscaping, plantscaping, turf management, and retail floriculture.
Students learn to identify horticulture plants, propagate greenhouse crops, safely operate landscaping equipment, use herbicides and pesticides, design residential and commercial landscapes, build plant-growing structures, install landscape plantings, and establish and maintain turf areas.
The Horticulture/Landscaping program includes the marketing of horticulture products and landscaping services. Residential and commercial landscaping is an important part of the program, so, students have the opportunity to work as a team in designing, erecting, and planting projects for the public.
Following completion of program students will be prepared to test in the following certification areas: Ohio Certified Nursery Technician: Landscape; Ohio Certified Nursery Technician: Grower; Ohio Certified Nursery Technician: Garden Center,
and Ohio Certified Florist.
Horticulture/Landscaping prepares graduates to confidently enter into careers in the nursery, greenhouse, floriculture, and landscaping industries, or to move on to advanced training at a college or technical school.
