Precision Machining Skills for an In-Demand Career
The ACJVS Precision Machining program prepares students for entry into occupations in business and industry that require machine tool knowledge and experience. Skilled machinists are in high demand and have excellent employment opportunities.
In this program, students learn to interpret blueprints, use precision measuring devices, set-up and operate machine tools such as power saws, lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drill presses. Basic metallurgy and heat-treating processes are also learned.
Precision Machining students prepare for work in modern manufacturing facilities by gaining skills in the operation of state-of-the-art CNC lathes, milling machines, machining centers and CADD/CAM systems.
Entry-level career opportunities for Precision Machining graduates include: grinder operator, lathe operator, mill operator, numerical control operator, and drill press operator. Certification will be available for a variety of machining standards through NIMS (National Institute for Metal Workings Skills).
Advanced career opportunities in Precision Machining include: machinist, tool and die maker, gauge maker, CNC Programmer/Technician and inspector.
Upon completion of this program, students can enter the workforce, qualify for apprenticeship training, or pursue post-secondary education offered by Tech schools and Universities.
