The ACJVS Public Safety Academy prepares students to successfully enter into and obtain the needed certifications for firefighting, private security, and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) careers.
First year students will study basic law enforcement, criminal justice, and private security and learn constitutional law, defensive techniques, investigative procedures, security, discipline, professionalism, and physical fitness.
Second year students will study firefighting and EMT-B training. Students will be presented with the opportunity to earn state certification as an EMT-B and Level II (240) firefighter.
Students will study and learn to operate protective tools, equipment, safe and efficient fire suppression activities, hazardous material operations, rescue techniques, fire prevention education, and fire alarm systems.
The State of Ohio requires a minimum of 90% attendance to be eligible to take EMT-B and firefighter level II (240) ertification.
Entrance into the Public Safety Academy requires all students submit to random urinalysis drug screens. Students enrolled in the program must have a sports physical completed by the start of the school year.
This program can be a direct path to a public safety career, or lay a strong foundation for securing a post-secondary degree in Criminal Justice, or law enforcement. (Students must be 17 years of age during their second year).
