Adult Basic & Literacy Education (ABLE)

WE CAN HELP YOU!

Options: Study at home, in class, study GED ON TV, study GED on-line!  We will help you prepare for this seven hour test which also includes an essay!  Notice - you must be 19 years old!  Applicants 18 yrs old or younger must meet certain requirements/have Superintendent complete special section of application and be officially withdrawn from school!

Step 1: GED Preparation

  • Attend a two-part Orientation Session.  Call to schedule an appointment and find out about our services and the Official Practice Test.  See if you are ready! Orientations are once a month, please call for dates and times!
  • Attend GED Classes for FREE... let us help you study and prepare for the test!
  • Take a FREE Practice Test!
  • There is a cost of $40.00 for the offical GED Test
Step 2: GED Application
  • Special Note: Application services are now available online. For details, visit Ohio Department of Education at www.ode.state.oh.us.
  • Complete application online/pay online with a credit card. If you do not have a credit card you can still complete the application online, but you will have to mail in a $40 money order or business check. (Can not be cash or personal check!)
  • ABLE Office will verify results of Official Practice Test and complete Fee Waiver for FREE GED TEST!
  • Application should be mailed to Columbus (Address on the application)
    Check with the ABLE Office(ACJVS) to confirm YOUR authorization. You are now ready to schedule a test date!  Note: This authorization is valid for 120 days, so you must schedule and complete the GED Test within 120 days (four months) or you will have to complete another application!

Step 3: GED TEST

  • Call the GED Test Center for your test appointment: ACJVS (440)576-5599
  • Ask to schedule a GED Test date.  You must have authorization from Columbus BEFORE scheduling!
  • Plan ahead for a full day (or two evenings) at the ACJVS Test Center
  • On your test date, report to ACJVS Test Center at 7:40 AM or at 3:40 PM for evening testing.
  • Bring "Photo I.D." (Ohio Driver's License / Ohio I.D. or Passport)
  • Complete 5 tests/multiple choice + written essay
  • Time limit (each test has a time limit...total time for 5 tests: 7 hrs+)
Options: You may also apply by mail if you do not have the internet:

  1. Complete an application/sign/notarize.
  2. Attach $40 money order.
  3. Mail to Columbus.  After Columbus posts your authorization, you may schedule/complete the GED Test anytime within 120 days!  For more information, call the ABLE Office at (440) 576-5599

FREE GED PRACTICE TESTS are 
available at ALL Adult Learning Centers! Passing an Official Practice Test will tell you that you are prepared to take the Official GED Test! You must complete the application process and pay $40. Please CALL or STOP BY to schedule an appointment!

OFFICIAL GED TEST is given at ACJVS year-round. NEW TEST and NEW POLICIES started in 2002! CALL for details!
